Art Harrison
Art Harrison is originally from the West Kootenay region of British Columbia but recently relocated to Vancouver. He is the youngest in a family of eight children and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2019. His mother and four older siblings were also diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease or other degenerative brain disorders.
Since being diagnosed, Art has adopted a philosophy he learned working in the Human Services field supporting individuals living with cognitive and physical challenges in that, regardless of whatever challenges people may live with, we are all people first and foremost, and we are not defined by any disability or challenges we may experience in life.
Art now volunteers on numerous panels with the Alzheimer’s Societies of BC and Canada, with CCNA’s Engagement of People with Lived Experience of Dementia group, and various Universities across Canada, hoping to promote awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementia.
Art writes about his personal experiences in life and living with Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as his experiences in his Substack account. (https://aharrison.substack.com).
