Jocelyn Burgener

Jocelyn Burgener was raised in Toronto and is a graduate of Ryerson University’s Radio and Television Arts program. She has lived in Calgary since 1976, and has four adult children.

She served two terms as a Member of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly (1993-2001). Jocelyn led the development of the Protection Against Family Violence Act. Her effort in developing the implementation strategy for this legislation received the Premier’s Award of Excellence in 2001.

Jocelyn was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2003. In 2014, she self-published a book of poems and short stories, Naked Under My Coat, a collection that deals with her experience with Parkinson’s. Using pieces of her life, both real and imagined, Jocelyn’s writing exposes her vulnerability and insight in the face of her challenging new reality.
